Well since Shane was absent this week I will have to reflect on what I have been working on pertaining to the experience. I have been working on a program that was previously worked on by a former student by the name Payton Beigler. It was kind of nice to have a format to start off of mainly because it was hard to grasp what I was doing at first. Anyway, the program being used for this program is AutoIt and it is used as a basic programming application. The program of interest happened to be a file-copier in which would be used to copy files for a back-up before a format of the hard drive. This could be very useful at times because it can save you time and it can really help and make sure you know that the transfer was done correctly and successfully. I really like using this application because it will help me learn how to learn how to program some things on my own. I am still working on this as I type this journal because I would like to make up for lost time during this week. I do not have a picture of my atmosphere mainly because I haven't been there all week. I can add a photo later on when I go back next week but for right now it is absent :(. Anyway the only thing that I would change about the atmosphere at In-Home Computer Care is the size of the work-space. It is a tiny office and there is a nice organized shelf and tool rack but it just seems a little small for a repair business. I feel as if it ever got busy that things would be flying all over the place and some of those parts/things would end up missing and complicate the whole process. So all in all I feel like the work-space should be a tad bit bigger just for organizational purposes. |

Well to start off I would like to say that this class is probably going to be one of the best classes I have ever taken related to computer sciences. I can see that I am going to get a lot of information out of it and it will be an awesome experience rather than a class that I am forced to take. When first arriving it was a little weird at first because I had felt like I was in a doctor's office waiting for my appointment but I was waiting for my mentor more practically speaking. But after that things just kind of kicked off and we got down to business. We started introducing each other and talking a little about what I wanted to learn and what my interests mainly are. Then we may have gotten a little off topic with a little video game talk but it didn't last long. Basically afterwards it was just a learning mass of information that was given to me. Shane gave me a fair amount of topics that I should research not only because they are interesting but he gave me some that would be informational that I could build upon my knowledge about computers. He also asked me if there was a specific program that I would like to learn and I wasn't sure so he said he would figure one out for me. I really liked the fact that he started off so strongly with all of the information because honestly it was what I was looking forward to doing in the course. He also gave a pre-employment exam to take just so he knew where I was at in IT knowledge and where we can focus on learning. Audri's video was very inspiring and I believe that it shows every age not only adults should be persistent in their work and make sure that everything is 100% how they want it instead of only how they would like to do it. Something that seems to be difficult at work is being able to pinpoint a certain problem based on the description for some customers. I'm sure that ability comes over time for most technicians but to me it kind of feels like diagnosing a patient for a disease or something of the matter. But i'm sure after studying and classifying certain symptoms to certain problems is a no-brainer for most IT Technicians. Other than that it is fairly simple to understand what needs to be done unless you have a problem that is coming from something complicated like faulty hardware and fishy software. Summary
In A.J. Juliani’s article ‘Why 20% time is good for schools” he focuses on the topic of genius/20% time and how students should take advantage of it to do something they would rather do. Not only do students adopt this policy but also people who work at big companies such as Google. With 20% time people are able to step away from they are currently working on and they have a chance to create or do something magnificent. With 20% time A.J. believes students can also solve some of society’s biggest problems because they can actually devote time to something they love and are passionate about. Parents and teachers are also realizing how great of a concept 20% time is and how it can be used to make their kids/students more successful. Editorial I think that 20% time is a very good aspect that is added to students learning process. I wish this was a thing when I was in my earlier years of school because I could actually do or learn more about something I wanted to. With that I could be ahead of myself today and learn more advanced topics. This is definitely a good idea because students can learn more versatile topics and advance in their knowledge. It can also be a bad idea because it can divert the attention from what is initially going to be learned. I also feel like genius time can also help students figure out what they want to do, what they want to professionalize in when they grow older. Plan of Action I definitely plan on learning a lot of useful information that I can use later on in my life when I obtain some sort of career involving computers and their aspects. One goal that I have been thinking about and made for myself is to do at least 5 or more different repairs throughout the trimester. The reason why is that I want to learn many different errors and repairs just so I have knowledge of multiple different problems and better yet I will know how to solve them. So I really hope throughout my experience I see more than 5 different types of repairs and deal with them successfully. This goal is mainly meant for significant research and for the sake of variety. Keywords Innovate - make changes in something established, especially by introducing new methods, ideas, or products. Reinvigorate – give new energy or strength to. I generally want to learn what certain aspects to a computer make it so we as people generalize these machines as being computers. This to me means that I want to learn about computers and their specific components so I can take my knowledge right now and make it a wider spectrum then it is. Plus messing around with computers has been something that has interested me already. I want to learn about what exactly some specific letters and numbers attached with a product or piece of hardware actually means. I have always looked at some specific numbers and letters of the sort and I just blew it off because I didn't understand what they meant I just knew that these pieces of hardware were compatible for the one that I was making. I am most excited about fixing people's computer related problems and have that warm feeling that I had helped someone in my day with a problem they have had. I am mostly nervous about messing things up because when it comes to computers they are very easy to mess up even more in the repairing process. All in all I can't wait to start this experience and I hope to take away some useful information from it.
