Well again I only worked on Friday but I like this because I have time to do homework and such before I finish school. The night went smoothly no problems and we treated it like another usual Friday. I am so glad that we learned so much this time around because I heard last year they had a lot of complaints and we have improved from that time on. I can't wait to jump in there when summer comes around because that is when it gets fun. I am going to have 5 days a week to work and I will be working afternoons because I don't really like cooking for breakfast. If things go south which I doubt will but I have a back-up plan for a job in which my mom's friend's son offered me to work on a boat on Lake Saint Clair to plate food for a cruise. I thought that was pretty neat and who knows maybe I might just try it out. The one that stands out the most for me has to be the facial hair one because to me it would seem that they wouldn't allow that compared to the rest of the things on that list. However, most of these rules seem reasonable but a couple seem a bit unfair but when you are an employee or a 'cast member' if you will of a highly anticipated company you have to be obedient enough to follow strict rules. This weekend was pretty mediocre because again I only worked Friday afternoon. It's totally fine though because that is when we are busy like we are now on Fridays time just flies by and you get through the day much faster. This week was smoother and we actually made more money than last week so that pretty cool. The managers and owner weren't yelling at everyone and getting everyone in line this week so that is also a bonus. I just can't wait until I go on full time because I feel as if I will be getting a head start on my life and I will be able to prepare myself for school and what not. Nothing has really changed with my experience this trimester mainly because I have switched places. At Stewart's I am comfortable because of the environment and I am working around people I have been working with for almost a year now. I have been more conscious of how my actions and skills affect production. I also am focusing on dealing with my own 'problems' before asking for help and it has come a long way. I am sure Pam has noticed how many less questions come from me haha. Letter of Recommendation: Brandon has been my apprentice this trimester at the restaurant, and I have found him to be very knowledgeable and easy to work with. He has really showed passion with cooking and learning more about it. He hasn't been distracted by the difficulty of working through stress and a lot of pressure, and has shown respect and courtesy towards others. I am proud of his dedication and focus in the face of dealing with customers and overwhelming amounts of processes that happens in the kitchen. I would also like to mention he is very punctual and gets the job done with little questions asked and shows signs that he really does love to cook and prepare dishes. It has been a pleasure working with him over this trimester and the past year, and I expect that he will be successful in both school and his occupation. Sincerely, Pam Maggio Stewart's Restaurant and Banquets This weekend wasn't as bad as I thought it was more crazy than anything. Because of lent we were super busy Friday with our Fish Fry and we went through 10 cases of cod! Pam is going to have me coming in Thursday this coming week to bread up some fish and get even more prepared than we were this week. Tracie the owner was there and we were pretty rusty for fast business because it all happened so fast and we were trying to keep up. I made one mistake during the mayhem and I had to sincerely apologize for it. She liked that I took responsibility and fixed my problem on my own which is a good thing for sure. As a team we pushed through the madness and at the end of the day it was said that the restaurant made around $1,500 in that one night. I am definitely ready for next week because at least I know what we are in for because honestly I walked in a 4:00 on Friday and was thrown right into the madness. Tracie also has ads in the paper so that would explain why on top of lent why we had so much business. 8 Things that make me Happy: 1. Friends 2. Family 3. Music 4. Education 5. The Internet 6. Progress 7. Change (Sometimes) 8. Health This weekend was fun I guess because I had to cover for Pam since she was sick. So basically I had to keep getting things to do from her and they weren't that difficult and luckily not a lot of people came into the restaurant. We have been talking about who we are going to bring in for this season and it sounds promising in the fact of the matter of everyone getting along in the kitchen. I can't wait to show the new employees around and get them comfortable around us. I also can't wait to start getting some of the weekend days off because that's all the winter season has been for us and I can honestly say I don't think we will end up staying open all year again. Summer is going to be a project like it was last year and hopefully I will either still be there or at another place while i'm in school. Thank-You Letter https://docs.google.com/document/d/1N45tpjb3QzZm1qVlmL8kMPd7fam6lMOJTezpQXZJ0n4/edit?usp=sharing Well it was great to finally work this weekend but it was a little crazy for me not because it was busy but getting used to the new things we were doing. Pam and I got up to speed and discussed what was going to happen in the month of February and March. She said that when I graduate she is going to put me on full time because we are going to need it at that point. It's also interesting to know we will be hiring new staff and I will technically be in a higher position then they will be. Its like a chain of command and that helps me know that it wont be like when I started working there and I will be able to teach whoever comes in there the way things need to be done. Saturday I was left alone to close and it was pretty nice I got a chance to just listen to some music and slowly complete my preparation for Sunday. Sunday was also nice because we set up the buffet and then cooked for a small party and it was smooth sailing from there on.
I really enjoyed that video because it shows that anyone can be as productive if they work hard enough. Jason was able to participate in his first Varsity Basketball game and score many points for his team. That to me is amazing because its as if they just give him the shots but he knows that he is doing good. I have not quite had a dream become reality but I have a sneaky suspicion that it will in the future. But since I am going into culinary I hope and wish to have my own restaurant some day. Now it doesn't have to be a 5 star restaurant but it can be a simple diner or something small. It just seems to me that it would be cool to own something like that and produce good food enough to make you proud to claim it as yours. Who knows if it will happen but I sure hope it does and it doesn't have to last long just enough to make it a piece of history for me. Unfortunately I had no work this weekend but i'm sure they could handle everything just fine this weekend as it was going to be super slow. There are pros and cons to not working in my case because when I go in next weekend I will be lost but I got a chance to catch up on sleep and what not this weekend.
Well if I were to win the Powerball jackpot I would make sure I obtained the money with barely anyone knowing. I would not like the fact of people knowing that I won a large sum of money. I would not like to win a large sum of money in the first place because I feel it destroys a person's life. If I would obtain said money though the first thing I would go to are family members that are in need of financial help. Once they get their problems sorted out I think I would go straight to several charities and donate just enough for me and the people I live with now to live life 'smoothly'. I wouldn't like to keep too much because then it forces me into a different tax bracket and then all that money turns into not so much money. I would most definitely still work to make myself think that I actually accomplished something instead of having everything handed to me. It would be hard to deal with for sure and although it would be very nice for a short period of time winning a large sum of money like that does not pay off in the long run.
The biggest problem teenager's face is bullying but in today's world it would be cyber-bullying. Procrastination has been one of my problems that I cannot seem to fix as easy as my other problems. I will literally forget anything I need to do until the moment it needs to be done. I wish I could have helped that in my earlier years because it could have saved my GPA. The only way I fight it is through teachers reminders and also my own through my phone or sometimes memory. It sucks to have to deal with it because I would much rather get something done than have to stress about it last minute.
I agree with Brent because this is exactly what I was taught as a child by both of my parents. Managing time is difficult for some including myself and that is something I need to work on for sure. Moving on in life I realize that every second of time is precious and it should not be taken for granted. When I asked Pam if I could show up late she said that I could be at least 5 minutes late and it would be fine. I don't entirely agree with that because I have always tried to show up on time for my shift. When it comes to work I know when exactly I have to leave to make it there on time and I try to compensate for any delays there may be. If only I could do the same with my school work I would be golden. I seriously think everyone should at least consider the statement of 5 minutes early is on time, on time is late, and late is unacceptable because it can help some think of time as more of a blessing than just a thing.
Yes, I totally waited all this time to complete this journal leave me alone haha. Anyway, starting that weekend by taking the day off of school was probably a bad idea but I felt as if I was pressured to do it by all of the people also taking the day off. Moving on to Stewart's, I went in to work maybe thinking it would be a layed back kind of weekend. I was horribly wrong as it was very busy and I had to be there all weekend. I think the fish fry went just fine on Friday but it was more busy during Saturday and Sunday because there were parties much like last weekend. Although busy it was definitely a lot of experience and it helps for the restaurant to be busy as a cooking career generally is. On the article I feel like is most connect to #8 which is thinking you don't have what it takes. I just think that if you think you don't have what it takes when you figure out you can do whatever that is you are totally surprised and it gives you a boost in confidence and will give you that drive that you need to get through some hardships. This relates to my job because when I started as a dishwasher I thought I could never be a cook but here I am today doing just that. Just a little update with how things are going today: I have been informed that we are going only be open during the weekends for a while. Its not that that I am that worried about its that Tracie the owner said she is thinking about firing the whole staff and starting over with new people. I honestly didn't know how to react but nothing has happened yet and I don't know why she wants to do this but i'm sure ill figure it out. |
